Fifteen Yellow Transportation Drivers Qualify to Compete in National Truck Driving Championships
OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Aug 12, 2002 -- Yellow Transportation, the largest subsidiary of Yellow Corporation (Nasdaq: YELL), is proud to announce the qualification of fifteen professional drivers to compete in the 2002 National Truck Driving Championships, sponsored by the American Trucking Association (ATA). The purpose of the competition is to promote safe driving and give recognition to those drivers who represent the very highest standard in safety and professionalism. The 2002 Championships will be held August 13-16 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The fifteen drivers all qualified by winning their state competition and being accident free for one year. Additionally, the driver must remain accident free through the Nationals. Each driver will be given an opportunity to demonstrate their driving skills and knowledge of the industry through a series of tests. These include written and oral examinations, a vehicle pre-trip inspection test and a skills test behind the wheel.
"We are extremely proud of the level of professionalism and quality our drivers represent," said James Welch, President of Yellow Transportation, Inc. "They personify the commitment to safety and quality standards that Yellow holds for all employees."
The 2001 event brought together more than 400 drivers from across the nation. Yellow driver, Ray Simon, was named the 2001 Grand Champion. Mr. Simon holds the record for being the only driver in the history of the National Truck Driving Championships to be given this honor three times in his professional career.
The fifteen Yellow professional drivers who have qualified to compete at the 2002 Championships include:
